It Would Be Worth It Just To See Maureen Dowd's Head Explode
Mo Dowd still hasn't gotten all the Hillary hate out of her system. She will throw in some Clinton-bashing as a non sequitur if she's a little short on her op-ed word-count. Like an excitable chihuahua who can't stop barking even when whatever started her barking is long gone, she continues to have petit mal outburts of Hillaryphobia at fairly regular intervals, even though Hillary's shooting star's buried somewhere at the botoom of the ocean.
In her op-ed in today's Times, she poo-poos the very idea that sexism played any role whatsoever in the media's coverage of Hillary in the primaries. And then, comparing Obama to Mr. Darcy in the Jane Austin novel she says...
In this political version of “Pride and Prejudice,” the prejudice is racial, with only 31 percent of white voters telling The New York Times in a survey that they had a favorable opinion of Obama, compared with 83 percent of blacks.Nothing like a little classism to combat that racism, Mo.
And the prejudice is visceral: many Americans, especially blue collar, still feel uneasy about the Senate’s exotic shooting star, and he is surrounded by a miasma of ill-founded and mistaken premises.
The ease with which she dismisses complaints of sexism is almost matched by the ease with which she assumes racism as the root of Obama's low approval ratings among "especially blue collar" whites. But I'm not so sure that Obama's high approval ratings among blacks and low ones among whites are necessarily related. I don't know how useful it is to look at them side-by-side.
But as long as she gets to rant about the Clintons on a regular basis, I don't think Dowd cares too much about the finer details. You can see it's a compulsion with her, and while it's as tedious as any compulsion, it's always sort of a kick to see someone lose it. From a safe distance, of course.
While the old idea of a dream ticket seems to be fading, with a group dedicated to promoting a Hillary Vice Presidency folding last week, a recent article in the WSJ by Lanny Davis, a former Clinton aid, argues that polls consistently show that Hillary is still the only prospective VP that gives Obama a bump up.
I personally think he'll end up choosing an older running mate with foreign policy experience, not because he thinks foreign policy experience is necessary in his VP, but because some voters do. After all, he flip-flopped on off-shore drilling, not because he thinks it will solve the current fuel "crisis", but because some voters do. It's an MO of sorts.
Anyway, as I have my own kinky compulsions, I can't help but fantasize about that fading "dream ticket," and what it would do to Maureen Dowd, who could finally indulge both her slavish adoration of Barry-O and her helpless hatred of the Hillerator in every column from here to November fourth — and maybe beyond.
This is kid in a candy store territory. I really think it would be the kind of ecstatic experience that sends people over the edge. Stigmata would be the least of it. I really think her head might explode. And that, finally, would be worth the tedium it took to get there.

I was kinda hoping for Hillary as a Supreme Court Justice, but if you promise Maureen's head really will explode, I can get behind the whole VP thing.
